The equestrian industry in the South of England is a major contributor in meeting the needs of people seeking active leisure pursuits.

Employers demand well-qualified and trained staff who are able to manage the day-to-day care of horses and are capable of offering a high-level of customer service, professionalism and business skills.

Foundation Degree Equine Performance and Behaviour

This programme provides a model of vocational higher education based on the close collaboration between employers and BCA.

Programme Content:
Each year consists of four modules. Optional modules incorporate riding, so riding assessment will take place as part of your interview procedure. Progression onto the second year riding module will depend on the level of practical achievement gained in the first year.

Modules will include:

Year One
Equine Industry and Practice*
Equine Science
Equine Behaviour
Equitation Practical and Theory (optional)
Small Business Management in the Equine Industry (optional)

*this module includes a short work experience period (paid or unpaid) as the basis for a practical study and analysis of the equine industry.

Year Two
Primary Research Project with Statistics
Equine Nutrition and Health
Equine Veterinary Science
Advanced Equitation (optional)
Legislation in Context (optional)

Transferable Skills
In following this programme, learners will develop a number of transferable skills such as:

Communication (written and oral)
Information Handling
Numeracy
Problem Solving
Team Working
Use of Information Technology (IT)

Entry Requirements
Entrants are required to have:
1 A Level pass or 2 AS Level passes in relevant subjects, plus GCSE Grades C or above to include English, Maths and Science
Or National Diploma pass in a relevant subject.

We welcome applications from mature students and overseas students who may not hold standard qualifications.

Progression
This programme will provide learners with the knowledge, skills and understanding to progress in their chosen career. Successful completion of the programme may enable access to further qualifications such as an honours degree.
