The Horticulture and Horse Care Apprenticeships are aimed at young people aged 16-18, who are working within the relevant industry and want to learn new skills while they are working and gain recognised qualifications.

Apprenticeships in Horse Care

Available for 16-18 year olds, this is your opportunity to 'earn as you learn', combining work with horses or a similar job with one day a week of study at BCA. It is suitable for those already working in the equine industry in a variety of roles.

About the course
If you are working at a livery or riding stables and do not want to attend college full-time then this programme could be for you.

As an Apprentice you will gain NVQ Level 2, NPTC Health and Safety within the equine industry and Key Skills.

The NVQ is split into units and you will be assessed on your practical ability and knowledge to do the job competently.

Units include:

Horse welfare
Horse care and husbandry
Riding
Transporting horses
Health and Safety
The development of Key Skills in the Application of Number, IT and Communication

Length of the course
15 months

Entry requirements
You will need to have experience of handling horses, enthusiasm and commitment

What qualifications will I gain?
Apprenticeship
Key Skills in Communication, IT and Numeracy

Apprenticeships in Horticulture

This is a 12 month programme available for 16-18 year olds. It combines working within a horticultural environment and studying BCA for one session per month. Also as part of your qualification, you will be assessed within your work place on a regular basis

About the Course
As an Apprentice you will be able to choose the relevant route within horticulture from:

Horticulture
Production Horticulture
Sportsturf - Greenkeeping
Sportsturf - Groundsman
Parks, Gardens and Green Spaces
Landscaping

Plus the development of Functional Skills.

Length of the course
18 months

Entry requirements
Apprenticeship: No formal requirements

Commitment and enthusiasm are vital for both programmes
