BCA offers two courses accredited by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) namely the Level 2 Certificate in Horticulture and the Level 3 Certificate in Horticulture. Both are externally assessed via examinations set and marked by the RHS. BCA enjoys an excellent record of learner achievement and success in both RHS courses and learners are effectively supported and prepared to do well in examinations.

With either course you can study part-time over two years as evening classes or over one year for one day per week.

RHS Award in Practical Horticulture - Level 1

This is a practical qualification, aimed at anyone with an interest in plants and gardening, which focuses on developing essential horticultural skills. It also provides a foundation for other RHS practical qualifications at Level 2 and Level 3.

RHS Certificate in The Principles of Horticulture - Level 2

This programme is aimed at developing knowledge and understanding across a broad range of horticultural and gardening principals and topics. It is ideal for those wishing to develop and strengthen their horticulture knowledge and is therefore suitable for keen amateur gardeners. It is also suitable for individual professional development for those employed within the industry. Students will study plant propagation, outdoor food production, garden planning, the root environment and plant nutrition, plant selection and horticultural plant health problems. Examinations are held in February and June of each year.

RHS Level 3 Certificate in Horticulture

Day at BCA

The Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of Horticulture is made up of 2 parts: Certificate in Principles of Plant Growth, Health and Applied Propagation and Certificate in Principles of Garden Planning, Construction and Planting. The course develops a greater depth of knowledge beyond the Level 2 Certificate and learners are therefore advised to have achieved the Certificate at either Merit or Distinction level.
