Extra-curricular activities at BCA

BCA prides itself on the range of extracurricular activities and events it offers to all full and part time students who are enrolled at BCA.

Sports Teams

Firstly, the sports teams are open to all students from every course area that is delivered here with numerous teams across a variety of sports.

Football has always been popular and the college currently boasts three teams which include the Reading Academy, BCA college team and also a 3rd team for the more recreational student.

The rugby team compete in the British Agricultural College’s league and have regular fixtures all over the south of England.

Netball and girls football have an active fixture list similar to the set up of all the other sports, often fixtures across all sports are the same and you could find yourself on a great social trip where you will be representing the college and meeting new friends from different curriculum areas.

Opportunities are always promoted at BCA and the college competes in the British Colleges Sport competitions all over the south. Students have and continue to nationally represent BCA for a large variety of sports such as, golf, tennis, Volleyball, basketball, swimming, cross country and hockey are just a few. A key ethos within the sports department which extends out to all extracurricular activities within the college is, ‘if there is an interest for it, BCA will do everything they can to provide’. In 2012, BCA will be competing in a local colleges and Sixth Form softball league. This idea has generated from the students and is set to be a fun and exciting new adventure for the college.

Lunchtime activities

Students also have the opportunity to participate in sports and recreation at lunchtimes as part of the ‘lunchtime active student scheme’. A range of activities are available and catered for every student. Again, just like all extracurricular sports, everyone is welcome to come along and play regardless of ability.

For years, BCA has successfully hosted the Berkshire 7s competition where over 15 colleges, (700+ students) compete in Men’s rugby, Men’s and Ladies football, Ladies netball, mixed Hockey and mixed tug of war. If sports are not your main interest then do not worry as opportunities to get involved are not capped at sports participation, the event needs students to help the smooth and successful running of this event and also do not forget the option to be part of the BCA 7s cheerleading squad.
