Animal Encounters

Since 2016, the BCA Animal Management Centre has offered a number of exciting up close animal experiences to members of the public. Ranging from Meerkat Encounters to Zookeeper Experiences, these fun packed activity days give the public the opportunity to spend some time interacting with our amazing animals and learning what it takes to be an animal keeper at BCA.

Please note: These experiences can only be booked at weekends, bank holidays and during school holidays. 

BCA Animal Encounters

If you are interested in any of our animal encounters, please complete the following form and a member of the zoo team will endeavour to get back to you within two working days. The Zoo team will be able to provide you with a unique booking reference which you will need to complete the booking and payment online.

  • Reptile Encounters

    About the course

    Activities include:

    • Get up close & personal with a variety of reptiles, amphibians & invertebrates

    Maximum of eight people per session with an age limit of 6 years+

    Anyone aged between 6-15 years must be accompanied by a paying adult.

  • Zoo Keeper Experience Days

    About the course

    This exciting opportunity will give you a unique insight into the day-to-day life of our keepers and the animals they look after.

    A typical session might include preparing food for the Lemurs, training the Porcupine, feeding the Tamarins and even getting up close with the Meerkats – all guaranteed to make a day to remember for any animal lover.

  • Zoo Tours

    About the course

    Activities include:

    • A one hour guided tour of our zoo courtyard and exotics house, housing a variety of reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates.
    • Learn from our animal keepers about feeding and day to day care of our animals
    • Watch feeding and handling demonstrations across a variety of species

    The zoo is fully wheelchair and buggy accessible. No dogs allowed.

  • Animal Academy

    About the course

    Activities include:

    Animal Academy is a brand new 3-day experience for children to come and learn all about the different animals we keep here at BCA.

    Students will spend one day each on three of our key sections, livestock, exotics (reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates) and the zoo courtyard. They will learn a range of skills from animal husbandry such as cleaning and feeding, to enclosure design and maintenance and health checks and handling.

    £120 for three days

    Course Dates

    Animal Academies run from the Tuesday – Thursday during school/college breaks. Please email zoo@bca.ac.uk for specific dates.
