Our study programmes place a strong practical emphasis on learning and we cover a wide range of techniques and styles using both traditional and contemporary art materials.

  • Level 2 Art & Design

    About the course

    This course is for those interested in exploring the creative potential of a wide range of art and design mediums. Our students develop their skills and apply them to design projects in areas such as graphics, textiles, photography and 3D design. There will be opportunities to visit exhibitions, museums and galleries, get involved in art and design competitions and work on live projects with clients and community groups.

    Progression

    Progress to the Level 3 suite of qualifications depending on grades achieved and English and maths results. You will also be well placed to find an apprenticeship or entry level job in the creative industries.

    GCSE/Functional Skills

    All full-time students, aged between 16-18, will study GCSE or Functional Skills in Maths and English, if they don’t already hold an A*- C/9 – 4 level GCSE in the subject. This is an integral part of their vocational study programme at BCA. Students over 19 are also encouraged to refresh and accredit their skills alongside vocational study.

  • Level 3 Art & Design

    About the course

    During the first year students are introduced to the design process through a series of projects covering a wide range of design disciplines. These projects are underpinned with an insight into the work of artists and designers which develops student’s understanding of design principles and enables the skills to visualise their ideas. In the second year students choose a technical pathway.

    • Extended Certificate or Subsidiary Diploma – one year
    • Diploma or Extended Diploma – two years

    Progression

    Students can progress on to a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design at another college as a stepping stone to Higher Education, or can apply directly to chosen universities to study a creative based degree. Completion of this Level 3 qualification will also ensure students are well placed to find an apprenticeship or employment in the industry.

    *There are also options for learners to study a one year 60 credit subsidiary diploma or 90 credit diploma qualification.
