Level 2 OCR Diploma in Media Production
About The Course
Our study programme reflects the diverse opportunities available within the media sector. It is an ideal foundation for students, providing them with an understanding of media through engagement with a wide range of internally-set projects, realistic production processes and up-to-date technologies and methodology.
You will learn through a combination of workshops, practical/theory sessions, practical assignment work and regular professional practice seminars.
Entry Requirements
Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English and maths. Students with lower than a grade 4 in maths and/or English will resit as part of their study programme. Some previous media study would be advantageous but is not essential.
More information
The Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media Production provides a good foundation for students to progress on to our Level 3 Creative Media Production & Technology programme (depending upon the final grade, attendance, English & Maths results).
The Level 2 qualification can also form a foundation for entry-level jobs within the creative industries.
Some example units include:

- Print production
This is a fast-paced course that provides students with the tools and skills to pursue their passion within creative media production. We make excellent use of our extensive facilities that include:
- Dedicated Media Production suites
- Full access to the Adobe Creative Suite
- Range of cameras, rigs and lighting equipment
- Studio space
- Our 400-acre campus
While it is not necessary to have studied Media you will be asked to provide a portfolio demonstrating your passion within the subject, this may be photography based, video-based or print-based. What we are looking for are students with a love for media production and the enthusiasm to bring their ideas to life.
Uniform: Come as you are, but you will be trekking around campus on occasion filming and recording, so comfortable shoes/trainers and a warm coat is essential. Be prepared to work in the rain!
Equipment: You will need to supply your own personal stationery that includes: notebooks/journals, pens, pencils etc.
All media students will need their own:
- 1TB external hard-drive with USB connector and case
- Headphones
- A 2, 3 or 5-way headphone splitter
- 64GB or 32GB SD card
- A USB card reader
Amazon or Argos provide a good range of these resources. We no longer provide these and the external hard drive is essential for backing up all work completed on our computers (we digital clean these each term). You may need to format your hard drives to our system, which we’ll guide you on during induction.
Learners will be signed up for the OCR Level 2 within Media Production. Upon completion students will have experience within the following:
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Premiere Pro
Adobe Audition & Audacity

Collaboration
Coursework is internally assessed. We assess in a variety of ways including film and video evidence, slideshow annotations, portfolio building, Q&As, presentations and film and audio final outcomes.
Our Level 2 students undertake a week’s industry placement towards the end of the academic year. You will be well-prepared to go out into the world of work and to a destination suited to your individual progression. You will also get to work on live projects with cross-college departments as part of our professional development sessions. We also invite visiting speakers to meet with you and to run specialist workshops.
