For Parents

Parents and Carers

As part of the study programme at BCA, all students undertake some form of industry placement. We work with companies across the sectors our courses cover to provide our students with outstanding opportunities in industry. Placement enriches students in many ways- it provides the opportunity to see the relevant industry in action and puts the skills learnt at BCA into practice gaining valuable working skills and experience.

IP is often the first contact your child will have with the world of work and we know this can be overwhelming for them at times. Talking to them about the benefits of IP will help them to understand how valuable and essential it is for their course and future career decisions.

How you can help

  • Encourage your son/daughter to start their search early
  • Encourage your son/daughter to visit the IP office in the learning Centre for advice and guidance
  • Log onto the IP app to look through the list 1600 employers our students currently work with.
  • Make sure they try to arrange their own work experience.
  • Rehearse telephone calls.
  • Proofread emails and CV’s.
  • Pass on any contacts who could help.
  • Putting the IP date in schedules and calendars to ensure the date is not forgotten. Download dates: 2017/18 Work Placement Dates
  • Preparing for the interview.
  • A shoulder to cry on – we know the workplace can be a daunting place, to begin with and a full working week of 37.5 hours can be a shock.
  • Praise and recognition – Experiencing a full working week for the first time is a fantastic accomplishment and we want you all to be very proud.

We are looking forward to working with your Daughter/Son
