This course is designed for individuals seeking to build confidence and practical experience in the safe handling and management of bees. It is ideal for beginners as well as those wishing to strengthen their foundational beekeeping skills through hands-on learning.
As bees are naturally most active during daylight hours, prospective learners are advised to consider this when deciding whether to enrol on a daytime or evening course, as activity levels within the hive may vary accordingly.
Areas of study include both practical and theoretical elements, such as:
• Safe and effective handling of bees and beekeeping equipment
• Understanding colony structure, behaviour, and seasonal management
• Inspecting and managing a colony of bees
• Locating, identifying, and marking the Queen bee
• Observing the hive interior and accurately interpreting signs of brood development, health, productivity, and potential issues
By the end of the programme, learners will have gained a greater understanding of hive dynamics, improved confidence in conducting hive inspections, and the ability to make informed decisions to support colony wellbeing.
This course will be running on the following dates:
Mondays – 20th April – 22nd June 2026 – 3pm – 5pm
(No classes on the Bank holidays).
