Course information
1 Academic year long – 120 Hours
There are both theory and practical elements to the course.
One day per week at College
We will arrange as many trips as possible, which will be linked to the units of work to be
completed. These can include trips to Outdoor Education Centres, as well water-based activities
which will help embed the learning
● Appropriate footwear, such as Trainers or Walking shoes.
● Appropriate clothing will need to be worn at all times, in line with the College Dress
Code Policy. Wearing of jeans of any type/length is not permitted.
● Appropriate layers will be needed in cold weather, along with a warm jumper, hat, scarf,
gloves. Waterproofs will be needed for wet weather, along with spare clothing. For
warmer weather, lightweight clothing will be required.
● Please be advised that this is an active course and you will be working both indoors and
outdoors in all weather conditions. Therefore, it is advised to be prepared with
appropriate clothing/ extra layers/ spare items of clothing when needed.
● Refillable water bottle.
● Note pad and a pencil case, to include pens, pencils, a rubber, a sharpener and a
highlighter.
There will be written assessments as well as theory lessons and where possible, we will assess
practically, so students can showcase their knowledge.
You will gain a Pearson BTEC – Level 1 in Personal Growth and Wellbeing.
If a Student is in Year 11 when completing this course they will have the opportunity to progress
on to the Outdoor Education provision here at BCA, subject to entry requirements. This
qualification prepares learners for further learning at a higher level and potential access to
work.
