Course Overview

This qualification develops your knowledge and understanding of the different types of provision within the Health, Social Care, and Children and Young People’s sectors. You will learn about the roles and responsibilities of professionals working in these fields, including key principles and values, health and safety, and the importance of working effectively with others.

This qualification is aimed at learners who wish to develop an understanding of these settings before deciding whether working in the sector is for them. It allows learners to gain the knowledge, understanding and skills required for employment and/or career progression in the sectors.

Advancements to Level 2 qualifications in health, social care or children’s settings provide learners with the opportunity to progress to employment, in due course, in a range of job roles in Health, care or Early Years sectors

The course will be delivered three days a week in college through classroom teaching, class visits as well as group and individual independent research to prepare for assignment work.

This course is taught at the BCA campus in Maidenhead, Berkshire, with access to specialist facilities and lecturers with industry experience.

Course information

This qualification provides you with an introductory knowledge of working in health, social care and children and young people’s settings:

-Human growth and development
-Understand the range of service provision and roles within health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
-Understand the principles and values in health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
-Awareness of protection and safeguarding in health and social care ( adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
-Introduction to communication in health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
-Understand the importance of engagement in leisure and social activities in health and social care
-Introduction to the development of children and young people through play
-Introduction to a healthy lifestyle
-Introductory awareness of equality and inclusion in health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings
-Introductory awareness of health and safety in health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings
-Introductory awareness of person-centred support in health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings
-Introductory awareness of working with others in health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings
-Introductory awareness of the importance of healthy eating and drinking for adults

1 Year

The course is delivered through direct teaching, trips and visits and guest speakers.

Completion of this qualification is achieved through classroom-based learning which will be assessed by your Tutor or Assessor using a range of methods. This could include tasks such as designing charts or leaflets, coursework or methods such as oral questioning.

Industry Placement is a fantastic opportunity for you to get hands-on experience and is also a compulsory and invaluable part of your course.

Depending on your course and level you will be required to attend a weekly day placement and/or block placements of one week or more. This will be discussed with you once you commence your study programme.

We have a fantastic Industry Placement Team who will support you along your placement journey.

The NCFE CACHE Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years or NCFE CACHE Level 2 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care. The knowledge gained will provide valuable learning should a learner choose to progress onto an Apprenticeship in a related area.

Level 1

A DBS will be required as you will be working with children and vulnerable adults, this is arranged by BCA

Uniform:
Early Years Polo shirts are required for Industry Placement and can be purchased from goyalsbca.co.uk

Stationery:
All students are required to supply their own Stationery and in order to make the induction of your course as smooth as possible, it is essential that you are prepared before you start. The items you will need for your first day are:

-A full pencil case
-A notebook
-An A4 lever arch file, dividers and plastic poly pockets
-Highlighter pens
-Colouring pens
-Laptop or tablet (only if available to you)
