Course Overview

City & Guilds Qualification: The Level 2 Motor Vehicle programme aims to establish the skills and knowledge expected of a person starting in the industry as a mechanic. The course covers servicing, inspection and repair of light vehicle mechanical and electrical systems.

It also includes training in the maintenance and repair of hybrid and electric vehicle 12 volt electrical systems and mechanical systems.

Course information

City & Guilds Qualification: The units include: Removing and replacing engine units and components, Removing and replacing electrical auxiliary units and components, Carry out routine vehicle maintenance, Carry out routine vehicle maintenance.

Students who complete their main programme with sufficient time will be offered a hybrid and electric vehicle safety training programme within your course.

Alongside the above study programme, GCSE maths and English Language will be part of your programme if you have not yet achieved a pass. Those who come to us with passes (Grade 4 and above) in English and/or maths will follow a Professional Development programme alongside their main study programme.

Students will also complete an Industry Placement.

1 Year

The course is delivered through practical and knowledge based teaching. You will attend college 3 days each week.

Level 2 City & Guilds Assessment includes: 7 Online multiple-choice exams. These are awarded at pass, merit and distinction. Practical skills assessments. Written knowledge assessments. You will build a portfolio of evidence to record all assessments.

City & Guilds Qualification: City and Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.

2 Week Industry Placement in a Motor Vehicle Workshop.

City & Guilds Qualification Progression: This course prepares students to start working in the industry or for progression onto the City & Guilds Level 3 qualification (having successfully completed a Level 2 City & Guilds programme). By the end of this course, you should be able to inspect, service and carry out remove and refit repairs on modern petrol, diesel and electric powered cars and light vans.

Level 2

You will require PPE for practical lessons, they are: Steel toe capped safety boots. Overalls. Safety glasses. For the knowledge sessions you will need the course workbook – more information about this at enrolment.

You will also require pen, paper and file for your practical and theory lessons. Lockers and workbooks are mandatory for all students and can be purchased via the College.
