Before you start
We look forward to welcoming you in September and being part of your new adventure here at BCA within the Foundation Studies Department. Below is some key information that we hope you will find beneficial to have before starting with us.
Over the summer we will send you an Enrolment Pack which will have lots more information about the department and your course as well as giving you information on what you will need to bring with you when you start.
If you would like to contact anyone in the department before you start at BCA please call us on 01628 827536.
We very much look forward to seeing you at enrolment and welcoming you to the Foundation Studies Department.
Course requirements:
Our students are able to choose an Option that they participate in weekly throughout the year. These include Animal Care and Motor Vehicle as examples. For these options you would need a boiler suit, Wellington or Steel toe cap boots and a hair band for long hair. Full information will be sent to you in the Enrolment Pack and will include any uniform, kit or PPE requirement for the Option you choose.
We ask that all students come to each lesson equipped with appropriate stationery e.g. pens/ruler/pencils etc. and a notebook as well as an A4 lever arch folder.
Any Health and Safety information or requirements will be included in the Enrolment Pack. It is important that we are aware of any medical needs. There will be forms relating to this in the pack.
If you are joining any of our Level 1 groups you will be entered into a BTEC qualification and some students will have a Gateway qualification in the Options of Animal Care and Hospitality.
Level 1 students will have some form of work experience and Supported Internship students will be off site for part of the week in a work placement. All students will have an opportunity to work in our onsite shop serving customers, completing stock rotation and supporting with orders.
Expectations will be laid out in our student handbook – which will be shared with you and parents shortly after enrolment. We will go through all of our expectations during induction and again mid-year.
Various trips and visits will be organised throughout the year and there may be an additional cost for these.
